Venue Type Targeting in the Ad Server lets you build reusable lists of OpenOOH venue types, apply them as allow/block targeting on campaigns, and analyze delivery by venue type in reporting.
What is Venue Type Targeting?
- Venue Types follow the OpenOOH industry taxonomy, using standardized enumeration IDs such as 101 (Transit, Airports) or 20501 (Retail, Mall, Concourse).
- The Ad Server stores both the numeric ID and human‑readable name so you can search, target, and report consistently across inventory.
Creating Venue Type Lists
- Go to Tools → Global Lists → Venue Type Lists in the Ad Server.
- Click Create, enter a Name for your list, then open the list to add values.
- Use Add New Venue Type to select one or more Venue Types from the dropdown; search by Venue Type ID or Venue Type Name and add them to the list.
- Save the list. It now appears in the Venue Type Lists grid with ID, Name, creation Date, Count Content (number of venue types) and Owner.
How Venue Type selection works
- Venue Type targeting uses exact matches.
- When you add a Venue Type ID (for example "1 - Transit") to your Venue List and set it to Allow, Ad Server only matches impressions where the venue type is exactly "1 - Transit".
- Child Venue Types (for example "101 - Transit, Airports", "10101 - Transit, Airports, Arrivals Hall", "102 - Transit, Buses") are not automatically included.
- If your campaign should run on a parent and its children, add every required Venue Type ID to the list (for example 1, 101, 10101, 102, etc.).
- If you want to block a parent and all its children, add each of those IDs to a list and set that list to Block.
Targeting Venue Types on Campaigns
- Open a Campaign in the Ad Server UI and click Advanced Settings.
- Add targeting, then choose Venue Types List.
- Set Venue Type Lists to Allow or Block, then select one or more existing lists from the multi‑select control. Use Create List if you need a new list.
- Use Additional Venue Type IDs to Include or Exclude specific Venue Type IDs (comma‑separated) that are not already in your lists or that you want to override.
Targeting logic
- Allow: the campaign is eligible to serve only on impressions whose venue type matches the allowed lists or additional IDs, respecting the OpenOOH parent/child hierarchy.
- Block: the campaign will not serve on any impressions whose venue type matches the blocked lists or additional IDs, while other venue types remain eligible.
