Ad Server provides users the ability to onboard 1st party audience data to enable targeting of audiences via integration with LiveRamp.
Onboarding and targeting 1st party segments is available on a contract-only basis and will need to be activated in your account by your account manager.
Setup in LiveRamp
The first step is your account manager will create LiveRamp child account and login for you. You can then follow these steps to onboard your 1st party segment data into LiveRamp.
-
Log in to LiveRamp Connect
Ensure you have access to your account and rights to manage segments and destination accounts.
-
Ensure destination accounts are active
- Navigate to My Destinations (or Destination Accounts / Data Out → Destination Accounts).
- If a destination is not yet activated, activate it specifying the correct integration type (“First-Party / Onboarding”) rather than Data Marketplace.
- If required, supply credentials / client keys .
-
Prepare your segments
- Make sure your first-party segment is properly built, with clean identifiers (normalized, hashed where needed).
- If using Customer Profiles in LiveRamp, ensure the segment is enabled / added to Customer Profiles so that you can use overlaps or combine segments if needed.
-
Go to the Segment Distribution page for the destination
- In the LiveRamp UI, find Distributions or Distribute Data to a Destination.
- Use the search / global search to locate the destination account you want to push the segment to.
-
Select the segment(s) to distribute
- On the Segment Distribution page, from the list of available first-party segments, check the boxes next to the segment(s) you want to send.
- If there are “fields” with multiple segments (e.g. a field with many values), you can either select individual segment(s) or entire field value sets.
-
Add to distribution
- Click “Add to Distribution” to initiate distribution to that destination.
-
Configure lookback windows & filtering (if needed)
- LiveRamp sets default lookback windows (e.g. 90 days for cookies, 240 for mobile devices) for most destination accounts. If you need different windows, file support / adjust settings.
-
Monitor the distribution
- Once distribution is initiated, LiveRamp usually takes 1-3 days for data to arrive in the destination. Then additional 1-3 days for stats / reporting to populate in Connect.
- Check status in LiveRamp UI: there should be status flags / logs showing whether distribution is Active / In Progress / Completed.
- If data doesn’t show up, troubleshoot: check identifiers match what the destination accepts, check account mapping, check suppression/permission rules, etc.
Activation in Ad Server
You will start by going to “Segments” from the "Tools" menu. Here you will find these tabs:
Internal Segments
Partner Segments
First party segments
Choose "First party segments". All of the available segments appear by default. From here, you can view all the information associated with a particular Segment and choose which ones you want to use. You will need to select and activate each segment prior to usage.
Once you choose the segment that you want, click the "Play" icon from the "Actions" column. You will receive a message indicating that your request was successful and a clock icon will display indicating that your request is "In Progress.”
A particular segment could take up to 1 or 2 days processing time to be available.
Once the segment has finished processing, the segments will appear or disappear on the Line Items → Actions: Create/Edit → Targeting → “Content and Segments” tab - specifically in the “First Party Segment” dropdown, if selected.
