Segments are used to organize and group users for audience targeting and analysis. These segments can be first-party user groups or composite segments created from a combination of existing segments.
Segments Dashboard
The main Segments dashboard under the Tools tab shows all available segments, their assigned lifetime (in days), and the quantity of active users within each segment.
You can search segments by name using the lookup field and sort by various metrics. From this view, you can also access editing, linking, or deletion options for each segment.
Creating a New Segment
Click the green Create button to build a new segment. There are two segment types:
- Standard Segment - This is a basic segment based on user data. Fields include:
-
Name (required): The name for the segment
-
Lifetime (required): Duration in days that a user remains in the segment
-
Tags: Optional metadata to help organize segments
2. Composite Segment - A composite segment is built from existing segments using logic operations. Additional Fields include:
-
Composite Segment: Toggle ON
-
Set Type: Choose between Intersection, Union, or Complement
-
Intersection: Users must be in all selected segments
-
Union: Users in any selected segment are included
-
Complement: Users in the selected segment(s) are excluded
-
-
Segments: Choose existing segments to build your logic
Once created, the segment will appear in the dashboard list and can be used for campaign targeting or reporting.
Grant Access to Advertisers
Once the segment is created, it must be assigned to advertisers who should be allowed to use it:
-
In the Segments Dashboard, find the segment and click the edit icon.
-
Click the access tab next to the basic settings.
-
Select the advertisers from the drop down and click Allow Access.
-
Once granted the advertiser will display in the approved list below.
Advertisers without access will not see or be able to target the segment.
Attach the Segment Pixel to a Source in the SSP
Once you've generated the segment pixel (via Get Code) and granted advertiser access, you’ll need to deploy it within the IndiCue SSP. This ensures the segment fires correctly when users encounter the content.
To attach the segment code to a Source:
-
Navigate to Sources from the main menu.
-
Select the source you want to attach the segment to.
-
Click into the Advanced Settings tab.
-
Scroll down to the bottom of the page until you see the 3rd Party Trackers section.
-
Click the + Tracker button.
You’ll see three required fields:
- Event Type
This setting determines when the segment pixel is triggered. While multiple options are listed in the interface, please note that only the following event types are currently supported and functioning reliably for third-party tracking pixels:-
Impression
-
First Quartile (25% completion)
-
Midpoint (50% completion)
-
Third Quartile (75% completion)
-
Complete View (100% completion)
-
Ad Started
-
Skipped
-
We recommend using only the supported options above to ensure proper segment tracking and avoid data discrepancies.
- Traffic Score: Leave as
100
unless otherwise directed. - URL: Paste the segment pixel URL
Click Save to apply the changes
🔄 Once configured, the segment will fire on the selected event(s), populating users into the defined segment.
